Description
The MasterHAK 281200 is a vehicle-specific towbar for motorhomes based on the Ford Transit V363 from 03/2014 onwards. It has been developed especially for coachbuilt and A-class motorhomes with an extended rear overhang.
The system is not a standard towbar for panel vans or commercial vehicles. On a motorhome, the body and rear garage often extend well beyond the rear axle. Specially adapted mounting components are therefore required.
Each installation kit is prepared according to the vehicle dimensions, rear overhang, chassis construction and the location of tanks, pipes and other components underneath the vehicle.
The adjustable towball height allows the system to be matched to the rear of the motorhome and its ground clearance. The towbar can be used to tow a suitable trailer or to mount a compatible towball-mounted bicycle carrier.
Is the MasterHAK 281200 suitable for your motorhome?
Model 281200 is suitable if:
- your motorhome is based on a Ford Transit V363 from 03/2014 onwards,
- it is a coachbuilt or A-class motorhome,
- the rear overhang does not exceed 2,460 mm,
- the chassis and chassis extensions match the intended configuration,
- tanks, pipes and other components do not obstruct the mounting points,
- the vehicle construction allows the complete system to be installed safely.
Motorhomes built on the same Ford Transit base can differ significantly in body length, chassis extensions and underbody equipment. The towbar must therefore not be selected solely by vehicle make, model and year.
Before approving the order, we check compatibility using the photographs and vehicle measurements you provide.

Type approval for the complete towbar system
The type approval covers the complete towbar system, not only the towball.
The complete crossmember has been approved as a non-standard Class F coupling device in accordance with UN Regulation No. 55. The approval documents confirm a D-value of 12.5 kN and a maximum static nose weight S of 90 kg.

Information required before ordering
Please send us:
- a photograph showing the complete rear underside of the vehicle,
- photographs of the chassis ends behind the rear wheels,
- photographs of the left- and right-hand chassis extensions,
- photographs of tanks, pipes, brackets and other components underneath the body,
- the rear-overhang measurement,
- information about any fitted support legs or levelling system.
Measure the rear overhang from the centre of the rear wheel or rear axle to the furthest point of the motorhome body. Please provide this measurement in centimetres when placing your order.
The maximum permitted rear overhang for the MasterHAK 281200 is 2,460 mm.
We will check the information and confirm whether the MasterHAK 281200 is suitable for your motorhome.
Trailers and bicycle carriers
Once professionally installed, the towbar can be used with:
- luggage trailers,
- boat trailers,
- other trailers approved for the vehicle,
- suitable bicycle carriers,
- conventional bicycles and e-bikes carried on a compatible carrier.
The maximum towing capacity of the towbar is 2,000 kg. This does not mean that every Ford Transit motorhome is permitted to tow a trailer of this weight.
Before use, check the permitted towing capacity and gross train weight stated in the vehicle documents. The lowest permitted limit always applies.
Nose weight when using a bicycle carrier
The maximum static nose weight of 90 kg is a type-approved value for the towbar.
When using a bicycle carrier, the distance between the towball and the load’s centre of gravity creates additional leverage forces. You must therefore consider:
- the weight of the bicycle carrier,
- the combined weight of the bicycles,
- the distance between the load’s centre of gravity and the towball,
- the permitted rear axle load,
- the motorhome’s actual loaded weight,
- the carrier manufacturer’s specifications.
The towbar is not designed for carrier platforms used to transport heavy motorcycles, scooters or other heavy vehicles. Such vehicles may only be transported on a suitable trailer, provided that all permitted limits for the motorhome, towbar and trailer are observed.
What is included?
The standard installation kit includes:
- a towbar crossmember prepared for the motorhome,
- a flange towball secured with two M16 bolts,
- vehicle-specific mounting and adaptation components,
- the required mounting bolts,
- installation instructions.
The vehicle-specific 13-pin wiring kit is not included in the standard mechanical kit. It must be ordered separately according to the vehicle’s production year and electrical system.
Suitable wiring kits are available for vehicles manufactured:
- from 03/2014 to 05/2016,
- from 06/2016 to 05/2024,
- from 06/2024 to 05/2025,
- from 06/2025 onwards.
Installation
The MasterHAK 281200 is connected to the vehicle chassis and its existing chassis extensions. The height adjustment allows the towball position to be matched to the rear of the motorhome and the road surface.
Depending on the motorhome body construction, a cut-out in the lower section of the bumper may be required. The necessary work must be assessed on the specific vehicle before installation begins.
Installation should be carried out by a qualified workshop experienced in motorhome body construction and towbar installation.
Powder-coated steel construction
The steel construction is protected against external conditions by a powder-coated finish. The condition of the coating should be checked regularly, particularly after winter or exposure to road salt.
Any mechanically damaged areas must be cleaned and protected against corrosion again.
When is the MasterHAK 281200 not suitable?
Do not select this model if:
- the vehicle is not a motorhome based on the Ford Transit V363,
- the rear overhang exceeds 2,460 mm,
- the chassis or chassis extensions differ from the intended configuration,
- tanks, support legs or other components prevent safe installation,
- the vehicle’s permitted limits do not allow the planned towing or nose load.
Processing time
The standard processing time is up to three working days after compatibility has been confirmed and all required photographs and measurements have been received.
Payload and axle-load limits
Installing a towbar, bicycle carrier or levelling system does not increase:
- the motorhome’s maximum authorised mass,
- the permitted rear axle load,
- the permitted towing capacity,
- the permitted gross train weight.
The weight of the towbar, bicycle carrier, bicycles, trailer and other vehicle equipment must be taken into account. The lowest permitted limit specified for any of the components involved always applies.
